What Makes the Golden Mount Festival Special?

The Golden Mount Festival, locally known as Ngan Wat Phu Khao Thong, is an annual celebration held at Wat Saket, one of Bangkok’s historic Buddhist temples.

The festival combines religious ceremonies with the cheerful atmosphere of a traditional Thai fair. Visitors can experience local traditions, browse food stalls, enjoy classic fairground activities, and admire the beautifully illuminated Golden Mount after sunset.

Highlights of the Golden Mount Festival 2026

1. The Traditional Red Cloth Ceremony

The festival begins with the sacred Red Cloth Wrapping Ceremony on 17 November 2026 at 6:00 AM.

This important Buddhist tradition involves carrying a long red cloth in a procession and wrapping it around the Golden Mount’s golden chedi as a symbol of faith, respect, and blessings.

2. Delicious Thai Street Food

One of the best parts of visiting a Thai temple fair is the food!

Explore a variety of food stalls offering Thai snacks, traditional sweets, refreshing drinks, and popular local dishes. It’s a wonderful opportunity to taste authentic Thai flavours while enjoying the festival atmosphere.

3. Traditional Temple Fair Atmosphere

Discover the charm of a classic Thai temple fair, with colourful decorations, local stalls, and traditional fairground entertainment.

It’s a fun cultural experience for couples, families, and travellers who want to see a different side of Bangkok.

4. Golden Mount at Night

The Golden Mount is especially beautiful after sunset, when the golden chedi glows against Bangkok’s night sky.

Bring your camera! The illuminated temple and lively festival surroundings create memorable photo opportunities.
